The Opportunity

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Civil Engineering QS to take the lead on an exciting £3m civils contract for a new Data Centre in Berlin, Germany - all expenses paid.

The Employer

The employer is an award-winning UK-based multi-disciplinary civil engineering contractor, with a turnover in excess of £250m per annum. The employer has an enviable reputation as a market leader, an innovator and an employer of choice. They are now in the fortunate position of having secured several Civil Engineering packages for new-build data centres and are seeking a Quantity Surveyor to join the project team on a scheme in Berlin, Germany.

The employer regularly undertakes such work internationally, and are looking for an individual who is happy to work away from home in Europe. The employer will cover the full cost of all travel, lodging and expenses - in addition to offering a highly competitive salary/package/rate.

The employer is happy to engage you either on a PAYE/Permanent or Freelance/Contract basis.

The Project

The employer has been awarded a contract £3m in value, to undertake the following civil engineering works to a new-build data centre; Enabling works, new utilities, a new substation, new roads, drainage, hard landscaping, reinforced concrete slab and external works. The location of the project in Berlin, Germany.

Enabling works begin in December 2020 and are anticipated completion is slated for December 2021.

Duties & Responsibilities

As the Project Quantity Surveyor, you will report to a visiting/supporting Commercial Director. You are responsible for ensuring the commercial success of the contract. Typical duties will include;

• prepare and analyse project costings for tenders, such as materials, quantities, labour and time
• prepare tender and contract documents, including bills of quantities with the architect and/or the client
• negotiate contracts and work schedules
• allocate work to subcontractors and oversee their work at all stages of the construction
• perform risk, value management and cost control during construction

Requirements

• Must be University or college-educated in a Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering or Construction subject.
• Must have at least 5 years relevant experience (As a QS in Civil Engineering)
• Must be happy to work in Berlin (all lodging & travel expenses paid by the employer)
• Must be fluent in English (the project team are British)
• Could have experience overseeing Civil Engineering & Infrastructure contracts within the Data Centre / Distribution Centre sector
• Could have international experience
• Could be bi-lingual / German speaking
