Unite People are working in partnership with a national, tier one construction contractor to recruit a Design Manager for their team in West Yorkshire.

Working alongside the Project Management team; you will focus on the design and successful delivery of multistorey accommodation new builds, with projects ranging from £30 - £75m in value.

Key Duties:

  • Set design deliverables for each consultant, schedule drawings, specifications and other design information for construction.
  • Prepare design programme in conjunction with the programme, consultants and CDP contractors.
  • Prepare and agree the IRS with design team and CDP contractors at the outset of the project.
  • Lead the design work with Senior Design Manager, Operations Lead, Project Managers and Commercial Manager
  • Review alternative build methods and practices
  • Assist team in management and compilation of the overall project
  • Manage and coordinate external consultants related to design, coordination and technical aspects
  • Organise and manage weekly, fortnightly or monthly technical coordination workshops, Package Reviews and Design Team Meetings
  • Work with Senior Design Manager to submit, manage and present the sign off of specific design issues
  • Work with the design team to resolve clearance of planning conditions, building regulation approval, warranty provider, project insurance conditions, party wall conditions, HQI's, SBD conditions, SAP rating etc.
  • Monitor all production information with the project surveyor to ensure cost controls are kept and information produced is in line with the budget

Skills, experience and desirables:

  • Strong design experience within construction, or a project management role.
  • An architectural/ design or project management background within construction.
  • Experience within a similar role, working on multistory accommodation above 10 storeys.
  • Previous leadership experience in the construction industry, along with a degree in a construction environment
  • Ability to supervise and lead projects
  • Excellent communications
  • Team player, able to deal with staff at all levels and collaborate

This is a permanent role, working on the design and production of both PBSA and PRS schemes in the West Yorkshire area. Higher salary bandings can be achieved when demonstrating relevant experience and industr/ project knowledge.

The position offers an excellent basic salary, car or car allowance, healthcare, and a WFH day.
